Chairman and Managing Partner
To be a leader and an innovator, you must be daring enough to carve a pathway to success for your customers that often deviates from the conventional track. Scott Colangelo is not afraid to be different. As the chairman and managing partner of Prime Capital Investment Advisors (PCIA), he is forward-thinking in the financial business, but always with his clients’ best interests in mind. He is the creator of our Qualified Plan Advisors (QPA) brand and is responsible for strategic planning and growth of PCIA.
Scott started QPA to fill a void in the company when an investment client inquired about the best way to monitor and maintain his company’s retirement plan. “We wanted to see what their retirement dreams and goals were and how we could help,” said Scott. “Yet, I discovered that, while knowing goals, investment experience, time horizon and other factors was required by law for individual investors, there were no requirements whatsoever for participants in a retirement plan. Essentially, this left a nation of workers to manage through their retirement planning and investing without the knowledge to do so. My client was confused when I asked to meet with all their employees to learn about them and to set goals, asking, ‘Why do you need to meet with them? No one has ever done that before.’” This single experience left an indelible impact on Scott, and out of it came a singular focus on participant education that has evolved into comprehensive financial wellness and the founding of Plan Health (Planhealth.com), years before it was mainstream. “Participant education and plan health are concepts everyone talks about, but there are very few concrete examples of firms that actually do it well.”
At PCIA, clients don’t have just one advisor; they get a team. Our team approach and our commitment to invest in resources open up even more opportunities for our clients. With our staff of ERISA attorneys, PCIA already serves as a fiduciary and has been ready for the new Department of Labor fiduciary rule. “Our ERISA attorneys have helped us deliver the most comprehensive fiduciary services, Fiduciary Complete, for years, and it’s a standard we hold in high regard for our clients.”
The collaborative approach is the foundation of this company. PCIA builds real relationships with clients, but Scott is not here to maintain the status quo – he continues to strive for better and is willing to look for solutions that aren’t always the easiest to find.
When he’s not working hard for his clients and team, Scott is spending time traveling with his family. “The concept of work-life balance, unfortunately, doesn’t happen often enough in our business. But our team approach provides a support system that allows us time to be with our families.”
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance with a minor in marketing from Kansas State University, as well as FINRA Series 7, 63 and 66 registrations. In his own words, his two hobbies are basketball and golf, although “I’m not very good at either.”
Tim Hakes continues to raise the bar for financial services in his role as president of Prime Capital Investment Advisors (PCIA). The firm does not fit a cookie-cutter mold, often pushing the boundaries with its team approach to financial planning. Tim is constantly on the lookout, scouting and acquiring top-tier talent who will bring the right experience and attitude to the team approach at PCIA.
“We are aiming for quality over quantity, making sure we have people who have the right kind of experience to fit in with our team approach,” said Tim. “That team approach is actually very appealing to folks who have the same kind of vision we do and can see that, for example, we’ve built a firm that is already in compliance with the new Department of Labor fiduciary rules.”
Tim developed the wealth advisory service at the firm and will continue to introduce new programs that will enhance opportunities for customers and allow the firm room to grow.
When Tim isn’t working to grow the company, he and his wife are attempting to keep up with their four children. “My wife and I bought an RV and our goal is to travel with our children to all of the lower 48 states. Right now we’re about halfway there. I believe this has made us stronger as a family.”
Tim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Southwest Missouri State University. He has furthered his education by obtaining FINRA Series 7, 24 and 63 securities licenses.
Chief Executive Officer
“We exist to inspire people to achieve their life ambitions,” says the new CEO of Prime Capital Investment Advisors, Glenn Spencer.
As CEO, Glenn is responsible for the company achieving its strategic and operational business objectives. He knows that the key to success is putting our clients and the professionals who work for them at the center of everything we do.
Glenn works with leadership teams to assure goals are linked to the company’s overall business objectives and assure they have the resources and support to achieve success. He is actively engaged in recruiting top professionals interested in building industry leading brands in our areas of focus.
“Organizationally, we need to continue to focus on innovation and simplicity,” says Glenn. “Today’s world is so very complicated; we need to make sure that we simplify things for our people and our clients. They want innovation, solutions to their challenges AND simplicity in their lives.”
Glenn also believes that, especially in a growth period, hiring the right people is critical to success. “We want our people to focus on the experience of our clients – what should it feel like from our client’s perspective? If we can paint an agreed-upon vision of the client experience and empower our people to make the vision real, they will develop better ideas than if we prescribe everything from the center.”
Glenn’s career spans 30 years in financial and professional services, including 12 years with Lockton where he served as U.S. chief operating officer, global chief operating officer, and most recently as global chief executive officer. During his time at Lockton, the firm grew from $300 million in revenue with 12 offices to $1.5 billion in revenue with more than 100 offices.
Glenn has served on multiple corporate, civic and industry boards and has focused a great deal of his time on working with young people who want to pursue business careers.
In his downtime, Glenn enjoys nothing more than spending time with his family doing whatever it is they want! His hobbies include tennis, running marathons and travel.
Glenn holds a finance degree from The George Washington University School of Business.
For Joe Hildebrand, windshield time driving between projects is often necessary and important to building long-lasting relationships with his clients. That attitude led him to the position of executive director of Prime Capital Investment Advisors (PCIA). “I treat my clients as if they are my family.”
Rather than sitting at a desk, you’ll likely find Joe on the road working alongside his clients. Providing valuable face-to-face interaction helps solidify the relationship he hopes to build with each client. Joe addresses individual needs and concerns by providing a wealth of knowledge about retirement plans and investments to assist with the planning process.
When working with companies “Our goal is to have every participant retire with two important assets, adequate savings and the education they will need in order to enjoy retirement.” For Individual wealth management “I build a team of experts around our clients, that way there are more sets of eyes looking after their investments and designing the proper strategies to accomplish their goals and to get them to that work optional lifestyle.”
Joe and his wife Marla have 4 daughters and a granddaughter. Joe attended Kansas State University and holds FINRA series 7,63 and 65 registrations as well as Life and Health insurance licenses in multiple states. He is a qualifying member of MDRT.
